Happy New Year 2020!

Happy New Year!!!!
Well, here it is the middle of the month of January already. It’s hard to believe that Christmas was three weeks ago! Time flies when you’re having fun.
So, I have made a few New Year’s Resolutions. One of them is that I am cutting back on my portion sizes. I have really become a glutton in the past two month’s or so. Well, to be truthful, I have been guilty ever since mid-October when I found a couple of bags of candy corn just sitting there on the endcap at the grocery store. It was calling my name. LOL!
Then, if that wasn’t enough, I then found the biggest bag of Halloween Candy on clearance at Walmart and I couldn’t walk away from that. Especially since my six-year-old son couldn’t go trick or treating because he came down with strep throat and a 102-degree temperature. I had to make it right for him. I had to be supportive. Hahaha!
Then Thanksgiving came and I was into the baking. I made everything you could think of to eat. I made a Better Than Sex cake, then a Pumpkin Pecan Pie along with a Ambrosia Salad that absolutely stole the show. Then the following week was two birthdays in my house, yes, I said two! So, that meant two cakes with ice cream. Oh, and the cakes were homemade by me.
That is another little hobby of mine. I love to decorate cakes for my loved ones. Both cakes were topped with homemade buttercream frosting which, I admit, was absolutely addicting. One of the cakes was a Nintendo’s Mario cake which was topped with one thin layer of chocolate buttercream and then I let that firm up in the fridge and then another layer of another buttercream layer of blue that was just beautiful! Needless to say, I love to spoil my kids on their birthdays.
The second birthday had a layer or two of buttercream as well and I had topped with a cake topper print out of Super Smash Bros. that I had ordered through Amazon. I made that cake with a chocolate buttercream that I had made black and was beautiful. The chocolate buttercream that I made was made with salted butter and so I omitted the salt but somehow the “salted” butter gave that icing a nice savory taste that was simply divine.
Anyways, I digress. Needless to say, all of these festivities to include Christmas in which I had made several batches of Santa cookies, and a pan of fudge….Uh yeah! I need to cleanse my body. So, right now my strategy is to lower my sugar and carb intake and scale back on everything.
That has been my method of weight control for years. I try not to take on an unrealistic approach to dieting. I love food! I can not help it. I love to cook, and I love to make good food that my family loves and that is kid friendly. I could make a meal that is just salad with chic peas and kale but I would be the only one eating it.
However, my method has always worked in shedding those extra holiday pounds that I gain at the holidays. I still make and eat good food, but I scale it way back. My portions end up going from a big scoop of potatoes or mac and cheese to a small amount – as in ½ a cup, I eat more vegetables and some meat. I also enjoy a green smoothie during the day to curb that appetite.
So, I hope that this year is a great year. I mean, just saying the word 2020 just sounds right. I am definitely making some improvements in my health and am starting to get my strength back after some real bad symptoms that I’ve been dealing with. So, I plan on spending more time in prayer and more time doing devotions and focusing on what really matters in this life, God and family. I also hope to spend a lot more quality time with my kids and my husband.
